Lupient Chevrolet is a member of the family of Lupient Dealerships in the Lupient Automotive Group, which was founded in 1969, and is owned by James Lupient.
James Lupient began in the automotive industry at age 16, as a part time lot attendant for the Schmelz Brothers dealership on Central Ave in Minneapolis, Minnesota. One afternoon Mr. Schmelz asked “Hey kid, do you own a suit”? “No but I have a sport coat” replied Mr. Lupient. Hired to wash cars, Jim suddenly found himself in charge of the Schmelz Brothers dealership on the day the boss’s daughter was getting married. On Monday morning, Mr. Schmelz approached Mr. Lupient and asked, “Hey kid, what happened to all our cars”? “I sold them”, Mr. Lupient replied. Mr. Lupient had sold more cars then the lot usually sold in two weeks! Jim never took off his car-selling coat, and the rest is automotive history.
Lupient Chevrolet of Bloomington was established in 1986, when Jim Lupient acquired the rights to the Chevrolet franchise from long time friend Harold Larson.
