As a three-row SUV, the Chevy Traverse is one of our favorite recommendations for folks with a large or growing family. It can comfortably accommodate a large number of passengers and delivers a fantastic driving experience that you will enjoy day after day.

That being said, if you are interested in a Chevy Traverse for sale, then you still have some important decisions to make as you shop. Although we are happy to answer all your questions and help you find everything you are looking for, we know that many people enjoy figuring some of these things out for themselves.

So we’ve prepared this buyer’s guide to help you explore what the 2026 Traverse has to offer as you determine which features are right for you.

One Engine, Two Drivetrains to Consider

With some vehicles, you have a number of different engines to choose from, which can make shopping quite complicated. However, Chevy keeps things pretty simple with the Traverse, offering just one powertrain: a 2.5L turbocharged engine that delivers up to 328 hp and 326 lb-ft of torque.

This is plenty of power for getting this SUV around each day and making sure you have a good time on the road, and it is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission for a smooth, responsive drive. What’s more, with this engine and the available Trailering Package, the Traverse can tow up to 5,000 lbs behind it.

One important thing to keep in mind, however, is that both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) are available for the Traverse. This impacts your driving experience; although FWD is great for fuel economy, AWD is a terrific choice if you tend to drive on many dirt and gravel roads.

With FWD, the Traverse gets an estimated 20 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway, while going with AWD reduces that slightly to an estimated 24 MPG on the highway. That’s not a huge difference, but it’s worth keeping in mind when choosing the Traverse that’s perfect for you.

Your Choice of Four Trim Levels

The biggest decision you’ll likely need to make is which trim level you choose for the 2026 Traverse, because it can significantly affect the features you enjoy.

Chevy offers four different trims for the Traverse this year; some of the differences between them can be pretty subtle, while others are much more dramatic. To help you figure out which one is right for you, let’s take a brief look at what each trim has to offer.

Just remember that we can’t get into every detail today, but we’re happy to answer your questions and help you dig deeper into what each Traverse trim has to offer.

Chevy Traverse LT

The starting trim for the Traverse, the LT, provides the foundation for the other three trims to build upon. Both FWD and AWD are available for the LT (as well as the next two trims), so you don’t miss out on the kind of driving experience you want.

On the exterior, the LT features 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-season tires, along with body-color details like the door handles. Heated, power-adjustable side mirrors with integrated turn signals are standard for the Traverse LT, along with an AutoSense power liftgate.

Looking inside, we find a stunning 17.7-inch advanced color LCD screen with Google built-in for the infotainment system. This is joined by an 11-inch driver information center and a six-speaker sound system for you and your passengers to enjoy.

Speaking of which, the LT has seven-passenger premium cloth seating, an eight-way power driver’s seat, a four-way manual front passenger seat, and heated front seats. You get Keyless Open and Start, Remote Start functionality, a wireless phone charger, and even tri-zone automatic climate control, all standard.

Combine that with standard safety features that include rear cross-traffic braking and blind zone steering assist, and you can see why the Traverse is such a popular family SUV.

Chevy Traverse High Country

If you’re looking for some nice upgrades for the Traverse, then the High Country is a fantastic place to start. It comes with 22-inch high gloss black wheels that look terrific, along with silver roof rails, bright upper door moldings, and chrome door handles.

The driver’s side mirror features auto-dimming functionality, plus you get RainSense automatic wipers to keep the windshield clear when the weather gets bad. Inside, the High Country offers a 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system that delivers clear, stunning audio, along with perforated leather-appointed seating with four-way power lumbar support up front. You also get ventilated front seats, heated second-row seating, and more great features to enhance your daily drive.

Chevy Traverse RS

The RS is another beautiful option if you want to upgrade your Traverse to include a wide range of stunning features. This trim also features 22-inch high-gloss black wheels, along with additional gloss-black exterior details, including a distinct grille and wheel moldings.

You’ll find many terrific features in the RS that are similar to what the High Country offers, such as the 12-speaker Bose Premium sound system, perforated leather-appointed seating, and more. The RS features a unique, wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel that feels great as you drive each day, along with available jet-black seating with torch-red accents that look incredible.

Although the High Country has some beautiful interior features and options, you won’t find this bold and aggressive styling there, only in the RS.

Chevy Traverse Z71

Finally, we have the Z71, which is the way to go if you’re looking for a three-row SUV to take your family on outdoor adventures.

This model is only available with an advanced twin-clutch AWD system, which makes sense given its rugged, outgoing design and 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. You get other great exterior details, including red tow hooks, high gloss black features (including the grille), and more stylish touches.

Inside, standard features for the Z71 include a six-speaker sound system, Evotex seating that looks great and is incredibly durable (making it easier to keep clean), and more for your family to enjoy.

This trim comes with the Trailering Package, so it’s ready to tow a camper or boat for a weekend of camping and making lifelong memories.

Other Options and Special Editions

We should mention that there are other options to consider as you shop, especially if you are looking for the latest technology. The Enhanced Driving Package, for example, adds GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving technology to the Traverse, and it comes standard on the High Country and RS models.

There’s also a panoramic power sunroof available that opens up your SUV interior to more sunlight, making it a terrific addition to trims like the Z71. Finally, the LT trim offers Midnight/Sport Editions that enhance it with 20-inch high-gloss black wheels, a black grille, and other black exterior details.

The Midnight Edition is available only with a mosaic black metallic exterior. At the same time, the Sport Edition offers options including summit white, radiant red tintcoat, lakeshore blue metallic, stardust metallic, and sterling grey metallic.
